Lessee... since May, Hubs and I have taken a romp through Philadelphia and New York with his brother, Steve, who came up here on vacation for a week. In Philly, we went on a Phanatic statue scavenger hunt, taking pics of ourselves with each one to prove we did it all. In New York, just two hours away, we took a subway tour of Manhattan, and even got some shots of some important locations from the Ghostbuster movie, like the Tribeca Firehouse, Dana Barrett's Apartment building, The Tavern on the Green, etc. Also took in Wizard World Comic Con here in Philly and met Ernie Hudson, who played Ghostbuster Winston Zeddemore. Had our pic taken with him and autographed, and he was a great person to meet in real life. Got pics of the local Philly Ghostbusters Franchise, who had a booth set up, with lots of cool home-made GB props. Also, because hubs and Steve just had to do it, we got to see Patrick Stewart up close and personal, at least for a quick minute, lol, and saw Bruce Campbell from a bit of a distance. Also lots of cosplay around, and lots of fun it was just being there. :D

This past month we took in a concert with Styx, Foreigner, and Kansas all in one amazing show. Then because hubs is a huge Beatles fan, we went to see Paul McCartney. Last concert we went to was last summer, Billy Joel and Elton John here in the Phillies ballpark.

Otherwise, life as usual around here. =)

I'm considering doing commissions. I get a request here and there for something, and since they are not gifts for people I really know, I'm thinking a little compensation for my time and work may be in order. Hubs also thinks this is a good idea. Anyone else?

I will set a price list soon for pixel avs and drawings when I find what prices would be fair for such work. I don't want to underprice my work, but don't want to overprice it either. =P

So a certain someone decided to finally get braces, since she couldn't get them when she was a kid. An adult with braces? :? Even though I've heard other adults get them, it still feels weird, esp when I feel people see me wearing them in public. Then I kinda feel like an awkward kid, lol... esp when I smile. :blushes:

Love them because they are making my smile look better... no more crowding, not to mention I still had a baby tooth in there I never lost (until they pulled it to do the braces ;p). Hate them because they were downright, unbearably painful when first put in, and for every adjustment afterward. :dohtwo:  I had to wonder about my sanity in deciding to get them in the first place more than once. But what enticed me were the facts that I could pay for part of it, my hubs volunteered to pay for the other (ain't he sweet!), and insurance took the third part... all in small easy to pay monthly installments. I have over one year behind me, and less than one more to go wearing these things, and I can't wait to get them removed. Yay for me! :w00t:

So I finally got off my rump and did what I've had the idea to do for a while... make cute tooth w/brace pixel avatars. Freebies too, for all those out there wearing and dealing with them. Hope peeps enjoy them. :D

Went to the Comic Convention recently with hubs over in Baltimore, Maryland. First, this is my first real convention of a decent size, with tons of folks there not just attending, but selling all sorts of cool goodies. Second, there were so many people, the line went outside the front doors, down the front of the convention building, and wrapped around the side almost to the back! While we waited in line to buy tickets, we spotted all sorts of cool fan shirts and cosplayers abouts. Trying to idnetify and name them was part of the fun of waiting in such a freakishly long line. :P Third, we got to meet the creator and artist for a webcomic hubs enjoys called Evil Inc. Brad Guigar. Not only was he a nice and cool guy to meet in person (who also happens to live in nearby Philadelphia), but when hubs bought a copy of his book Phables, he drew a very nice sketch inside the cover of Phamous Philadelphian Larry Fine (the third Stooge), and autographed it. How awesome is that? :D Fourth, we saw the coolest Ghostbuster costume and tried to snap pics of it. Unfortunately, it was a cell phone, the lighting was poor, and the pics turned out dark and semi blurry. ^^; Just didn't do it justice, so next convention I want to take a camera with us. Lesson learned. =P Fifth, we walked out, not only with hubs copy of Phables, but a nice small stack of $.50-$1.00 comics I managed to snag from a few bargain booths... one of which all the proceeds went to a local animal shelter. Comics for a good cause. I can roll with that. ;) Oh, and a few cute pins from a guy who sells them online as well. I got the bandage, monkey, and kitten keychains, 3 for $10. They are super cute. Go check them out at [link]

Last but not least, it was fun to walk around and see all the cosplay costumes people wore there. Some characters I recognized were Yugioh, Bleach, Kingdom Hearts, Xmen and various marvel characters, various DC characters, and even a very cute Astroboy that looked fresh out of the new CG movie coming out. And one booth sold a hat that looked just like Kisuke Urahara's from Bleach. [link]

All in all, a very fun experience, and one I'd love to repeat.

Hee! I'm so bad...:giggle:

I deeply thank everyone that has added me to their watch lists and faved my deviations while I've been absent from DA. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to respond to them. My deepest apologies. Plus, I've been mostly busy in my offline life and going through many personal things that I won't get into. To all those people, I give a very deep, heart-felt squishy hug/glomp. I appreciate your views, faves, comments, and watch adds. Thanks so very much! It is most appreciated! :cuddle: :glomp: :tighthug:

I have come up with a few creative ideas here and there that I toy around with in my head, just haven't really felt the urge to transfer them to paper or pixel yet. I even have some ideas for my new cute grim reaper character, Lil D, with friends and a story and a world to go with him. He's grown in concept a bit since I first accidentally created the little fella, and I've grown quite fond of him now. :aww:

My inspiration just seems to go kaput too much these days for me to do much art of any sort though, and get these ideas outta my head and onto some paper. I may have to haul my defunct inspiration into a shop and see if it can get fixed back into working condition again. If not, oh wells, no new arts, lol... though it would be nice to get new stuffs up on here every now and again. I can't make any promises on that, but I will try to work on it, as well as finishing a few things I may have promised a few folks earlier this year. In the meantime, I may just settle for scanning old stuff I recently dug up from storage, all crammed away into numerous (now painstakingly organized) folders and digitizing it all, possibly posting select most-decent works here on my DA. We'll just see how things roll from here on out and if I actually manage to get any of this done. If I do, it will be a miracle. =P

I did manage to get touched deeply by this project though:

I turned out one of the few things I've felt inspired to do in a while from this. I hope to get it up soon for view, and hopefully submit to the project. But the person is vague about the deadline, saying it's been extended to the end of autumn, but not specifically when. If it's not closed yet, maybe it can inspire some of you reading this to contribute? Whether you do or not, you can leave your condolences and wishes at her journal if you like, and check out the link she provides to a site showcasing many of the bears she's received so far. Very interesting to see how many different bears people have created in a great variety of styles and themes. All lovely and heartfelt works.

My friend :icondoctorwarped: has a new online comic based on an idea he's had for years. I see much potential in his ideas, as well as his art... he is really learning quite well as he goes along. If you feel inclined to check it out, feel free to go here [link] and take a looksie. You can also find him on Myspace here: [link] ;)

No negative comments please. If it's not to your liking, move on. People should really learn to be nice and follow the old rules of "Do unto others as you would have done unto you" and "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". He's received some positive feedback as well as some nasty feedback, yet he's not letting it put him down or want to quit. Good for him, I says. I firmly believe all creative types (no matter the medium they choose to work in) have to start somewhere, learning and improving over time. They should be given a chance, maybe some gentle nudging in the right direction (such as good critique mixed with encouragement on what they are doing right) if they seek it, and time to grow in that medium. I'm sure all our favorite artists/creative peeps didn't get to where they are overnight, but with lots of work, study, and perseverance in their chosen field. In a perfect world, we'd have better treatment of others on and off the web. Unfortunately, we have all kinds of people on the interwebs, nice and nasty alike. What can you do, right? We must all suffer mean-spirited,  inconsiderate fools with too much free time on their hands, and nothing better to do than to put others down and try to discourage anyone interested in learning something new. Such is the sad reality of life... C'est la vie.

Anyone who took the time to read all this soap-boxing, just remember not to let those bullies tear you down. Stick with what you enjoy and love, and grow in it. One day when you've greatly improved and made something of yourself, you can laugh at them, having the inner satisfaction of beating them and proving them wrong. Never say die, never surrender...

Now, enough pep talk, lol. Carry on... as you were, soldier... :salute: :D

:bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow::bulletyellow:

I will try (no promises again, lol ^^;) to catch up with deviations and lurk about here and there when I can. Hope life finds you all well and blessed. :rose:

Baby steps toward finding my inspiration and doing more artwork than usual. I haven't exactly been drawing or pixeling as much as I used to, but I seem to be making somewhat of a comeback. For that, I am glad. I really need to find that lost part of myself again, one that really found fun and pleasure in being creative artistically.

I even went a new direction in creating and started learning jewelry crafting. I got a few low cost starter kits (with help from my kind hubs), and have turned out a few decent and interesting pieces for a beginner. A new pursuit and creative outlet, and one I can wear too! I ams so happy! :w00t: :bounce:  :boogie: Next, I'd love to try sculpting, then maybe candle and soap making. :D

And just for fun, I am going to try this cute little quiz I found on :iconrainbird06: journal. :aww:

Yes, it finally strikes! And it strikes swift and mercilessly... :faint: :giggle:

I finally made a couple new works! Yay me! *lol* I've just been in such a creative slump for a while, that I just got all excited, s'cuse me... :blushes:

Hopefully I can get back into the swing of things creatively. I've been trying to get myself back into it for a while, with no luck whatsoever. Blahs, blues, funk, whatever one wants to call it, but I had no inspiration or motivation at all. I want that to change so much. I hope these two new pieces change all that.

I think it helped to get something I've been wanting for quite a while now, a tablet to work on. It got me to try it out and pop out those two works with it. It was so much easier than working with a mouse, much more natural, and it was fun trying out new ways to do things on Gimp, as well as a new Corel program I got bundled with the tablet. It helped cheer me up a bit and I hope it'll be the start of more to come. :D

I also played a free trial version of Spore Creature Creator this past week and had a blast with it, even without all of the available features. I can't wait to get the full version of it, as well as get the full game, where you can guide your creatures through different stages of evolution. From the website and game description, it sounds like soooo much fun! :w00t:

Got a cheap $6 DVD of the Bravestarr movie too, and man, such nostalgia when I watch stuff like this from the 80's! Next step, get the series on DVD, fer sure! =P

*ahem* Anyways, things are going pretty well on the homefront here these days. Leveling characters on Perfect World International here and there... very cool online game. If you play and I feel you're very nice or I know you pretty well, feel free to send me a note and find out my characters names and which servers. I may ask for yours in return. ;)

I will be playing catch up on DA again, as usual. Typical me, yep yep...

I got a gift for the holidays that really helped brighten my mood of late, and it came from Bob, my handsome hubs. It's something I have wanted for a long time, dreamed would be made, longed for in a DVD box set...

Before it arrived, Bob told me he had found me the perfect gift this year. Hmmm, what could it be, I wondered to myself. A Nintendo Wii? PS2 and Guitar Hero games? Books, CD's, DVD's or DVD sets on my Amazon wishlist? The possibilities were endless in my mind. I never expected what I got. So when the package arrived in the mail, from Time Life, marked for Bob Gerkin, I had no idea that was my gift. After all, I associated Time Life with special music sets or book sets. When he arrived home from work later that day, he told me it was my gift. I was stunned. What on earth could he have got me from Time Life that was the perfect gift for me? I opened the box, reached in and to my total shock and disbelief, I was holding a beatifully designed box containing the complete series of one of my all time fave shows from the 80's, The Real Ghostbusters! I had no idea it was now available on DVD, so you can imagine how floored I was. I was literally speechless and flabbergasted. Boy am I happy and in love with the nostalgia it sparked anew in me!

Watching a disc full of episodes one day, another the next. I love the special features, like the intros with different people who worked on the show, and commentaries made for certain episodes. They shed some interesting light on some of the workings behind the show and what inspired certain story ideas. But the very best feature of all? The before unseen and unavailable promo clip made for the show, with the guys all dressed alike and looking more like the actual actors from the movies. This was the best treat of all!

It also allowed me the chance to watch episodes I thought I'd never get to see again, episodes that weren't shown by Fox Family when they aired the show, or that I somehow didn't have on any of  my old video tapes. Episodes like The Devil to Pay, Janine Melnitz Ghosbuster, Moaning Stones, Chicken He Clucked, Hanging by a Thread, Apocalypse What Now?, and Collect Call of Cthulu. I couldn't be a happier fangirl!

That, and I finally got a new PS2 to replace the old one that went kaput back in 2004/2005, thanks to some nice gift money from dad-in-law. I got the new slim version, and can now happily resume playing PS/PS2 games we own but haven't been able to play, like all my FF games and Kingdom Hearts. I can also look forward to buying new games in the future to have fun with, like the Guitar Hero games, Rockband, etc.

Small amount of gifts, but the quality of the gifts more than makes up for it. It certainly helped brighten my Christmas! :xmas:

~

January will be time to travel to Florida to visit family for a couple weeks, since we couldn't go down this year for Christmas. I also have to take a couple days from that to fly from Florida to Puerto Rico for my dad's funeral ceremony, taking place at the National Cemetary there on the 9th. I always wanted to go back to P.R. to visit, even get Bob to see where I was born, where I came from. This wasn't the ideal circumstance for this kind of trip though. It will be bitter sweet to be there, to say the least...

Will do some more catching up when I return from Florida. That, and I have a summons to jury duty to attend to on the 20th. Ugh. Well, what can ya do?

~

Again, a warm thank you to everyone who sent their condolences and well wishes to myself and my family. It is wholeheartedly appreciated. :cuddle:

Have a Happy New Year everyone! See ya'll in 2009! :D

Around last Thanksgiving, my sister called me with the disturbing news that our dad had been diagnosed with Kidney Cancer, and it was in a very advanced stage. Around the beginning of this November, I was contacted by my family, told that he was very pale, sick, and frail and had been taken to a VA hospital in Atlanta, GA... roughly 5-6 hours away from his home near Mexico Beach, FL. My uncle Enrique, who lives there in Atlanta, drove him there, where they were told his kidney was blocked and fluid had built up in his lungs. He was in the ICU, where they unblocked his kidney, and were draining the fluid from his lungs through a tube. He was heavily sedated, in and out of conciousness. A tube was down his throat to help him breath, and he was being fed and given nutrition through a tube as well. His body from his waist down was swollen, everything bigger on his lower half than his top half, due to fluid retention. He was in terrible shape. So my husband, Bob, bought me a plane ticket to go see him. I left November 10th and made my way to the VA hospital asap, with help from my sister and my uncle. I was not prepared for what I saw with my own eyes.

Although my uncle talked to me beforehand and told me what to expect when I saw him, it was worse than I could've imagined when I saw him in person. I was told to be strong and positive for him, to help him fight. I failed the first day, because as soon as I walked into his room at the ICU and he looked at me and managed a weak smile, I approached him, grabbed his hand, and fell into a blubbery mess of tears. He gave me a weak hug and tried to console me. Each day afterward, I tried to project as much strength, positive attitude, and energy as I could muster, hoping it would help encourage him to fight to get better. For a little while, it seemed to work. He quickly turned around. Where at first, he couldn't speak or communicate because of the tube down his throat, and he had to use paper and pen to express his thoughts and needs, he got off the tube and was able to speak to my uncle and I directly, even if only with raspy whispers. Where he was mostly in and out of consciousness, he started becoming more conscious and aware, staying awake longer and interacting with people around him. His voice grew a little stronger with each passing day. He was able to talk to us and express his wishes, even drew up a living will and chose a hospice care facility at the advice of the hospital social worker and doctor. We had a ray of hope he'd continue to improve and have at least a better quality of life for a while, even though the same doctor and social worker told us privately that his cancer was at a stage where nothing more could be done, he was being taken off chemotherapy so he could enjoy food and quality of life more for whatever time he had left to him. They told us he might have approximately a year left to live, more or less, and that we had to brace ourselves for the inevitable.

He finally got out of ICU and the VA immediately transferred him to a lovely hospice facility run by catholic nuns. It was completely free to patients and their families, as they work off charitable donations from the public. The name of it is Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and it is a beautiful, clean, and friendly place. My dad really liked it and seemed to be happy with the care he received there. He even enjoyed some music from a CD player they had in the room he shared with a few other patients. Even though he was still bed-ridden, unable to do anything without assistance, tubes still pumping fluid that continued to collect in his lungs, he seemed pretty lively, bopping to the spanish CD one of the male nurses played for him at his request. He even enjoyed a little beer, something he hadn't been able to drink since his diagnosis last year. He seemed to be a little relaxed and more himself, even if he didn't quite look like himself, the way he used to.

Then his health started to quickly go downhill again. He grew weaker and more frail with each passing day. He started sleeping a lot, staying awake for minutes at a time, then rolling his eyes and passing out into sleep. The hospice celebrated his 62nd birthday Nov. 25th, and threw a party for him in an entertainment room across the hall. They even had a Thanksgiving event with food for patients and their families a couple days later in the hospice basement. But he wasn't able to fully enjoy any of it, barely conscious enough to participate and spend time with us during those events. One of the head nuns told me one day his cancer was spreading fast now, and they expected he wouldn't last more than a few more weeks. It was so hard to see him like that... little by little wasting away, slipping farther and farther away from us. The last day I saw my dad was November 30th with my uncle during visiting hours, spending a quiet afternoon with him. While sleeping later at my uncle's house, we received a call around 2 am, December 1st, telling us my dad had passed away in his sleep. As sad as the news was, as much as it troubled us, we all thanked God that he was no longer suffering from pain and discomfort, and no longer had to deal with the effects of the cancer eating away at his body, taking with it his mind and spirit. He had already suffered long enough.

God bless his soul. May his spirit be in a wonderful place now, finally at peace. He was loved by family, and he wasn't alone during his final days. Many hearts are with him right now, and he will continue to live in those hearts for as long as they continue to beat, his legacy and memory carried in a special place inside all those whose lives he touched. May we all meet with him again one day in Heaven.

"Extraname Pero Dejame Partir"
Cuando llegue el final de mi camino
y el sol no brilla mas,
no quiero rito en una
habitacion melancolica.

"Miss Me but Let Me Leave"
When I reach the end of my path
and the sun no longer shines,
I don't want a ceremony in a
melancholy room.
Why cry for a soul that's free?
Miss me a little
but not for too long
and not with your head low.
Remember all we shared.
Miss me but let me go...
This is the journey
we all have to take
and each one has to do alone.
It's all part of the Master's plan,
One step on the path toward home.
Bury your woes with good gestures.
Miss me but let me Leave.

Just finished celebrating the Phillies world series win with hubs. But something tells me that it won't stop there for him. He's got to be the happiest man in the world right now over this, and it will last well into 2009, to be sure... =P The man spent a bunch for this too, and bought lots of world series gear afterwards. What men are willing to do for sports, I tell ya... :XD:

Nothing much else on this side of the world. Nothing but the turn of the seasons, watching nature don it's bright fall best, and waiting for the cold of winter to set in soon... 'brrr'... :snowflake: Hot cocoa season, here we come...

I wanted to give a quick thank you to the wonderful peeps who've faved, commented, or watched me. It is much appreciated, even if I don't respond as quickly as I'd like to any of the above. Much love from my heart! :cuddle:

Also I want to let peeps know I will be heading down to Florida around Nov. 20th for a couple weeks to visit family, esp my dad, who is pretty ill at the moment. It is quite the spur of the moment thing, something I didn't know I'd be doing until this past weekend. My family is very concerned about his health right now. Prayers made for him would be deeply appreciated. Thanks very much in advance if you do direct any his way!

*sneaks back into DA*...

I have been on quite a hiatus for a bit from DA, and longer than I would've liked or expected. I apologize to my friends for this, I should've at least checked in a bit, commented, kept a little in touch. My deepest apologies. I have unfinished projects on here I have neglected that I just didn't have the inspiration to work on, but I have felt more inspired to do more traditional art lately, and so I'm finally getting around to finishing pieces I should have had done AGES ago. Very bad of me, I know... ^^;

I am so sad to come back after about a couple months to find one of my favorite people on here is leaving. :( I will miss Pixeled Girl and hope she will rejoin DA very soon.

Tanukitsune, I have the guest comic finally colored and done. Not the best, since I'm new to comic work, lol. But I will post it asap, and I hope you like the outcome nonetheless.

Swordman, I so do want the art awards I won from your contest,I just need to message you and let you know what I'd like. I just need to think a little more on what I'd like, but I can't wait to let you know.

I hope to post more works here soon, and become active again. And boy, do I need to catch up with comments, messages, and journals. :faint: That should teach me to stay away for a while, shouldn't it?

Been feeling a bit drained and uninspired lately, so been slow going on some projects. Finally finished one, now need to complete the rest... ^^;

I just want to squeal with delight!

Thanks so very much, Sapphire! It sooo made my day! :boogie: :bounce: :D

Oh side note to Tara and Lady Leanna: Take no offense at the reference to dating Lion-O and Panthro, as this was the artist's idea an not my own. She did it in good humored, light hearted fun, and did such a cute job with it as tongue in cheek. =P Plus, they're animated characters after all. :)

~

A lot of goings on with me. Still working on art, but slowly. ^^; I think I've burned out a little overdoing myself recently. Getting shop orders for forums done as well. If Sapphire holds that Easter contest, I thinks I have a cute idea to work on as well, so more RGB fanart from me? We'll see! ;P

I may be wiping my hard drive and reinstalling Windows this weekend to see if it'll fix major issues I'm having with my comp at the moment. Not only does it give me a blue screen and shut itself off multiple times a day, but browsers shut down constantly in the middle of browsing, posting, uploading images, and commenting. :faint: I want to see if that'll clear these issues. If not, then I may have to get this clunker fixed or replaced when I can afford to... ^^;

First off, I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's day. I had a nice one myself, with a nice red rose/white carnation bouquet, chocolate covered strawberries, a cute love card, a nice dinner out, and three RGB DVDs as a gift. Wow, yes definitely had a nice one, thanks to hubby! :D

I finally got one contest entry out of the way, rushing to get it done by Vday. =P Got two more to finish, so wish me luck. I hope to get those done asap. Worked on some more dolls for a forum event called the Black, White, and Red ball. Got the group collaboration work done and made my single entry for their contest. :D Worked on a few bases as well, so I seem to be really on the ball lately. ;P Go me! :w00t:

And I tied for first place with Stygianriver on :iconsapphire-eclipse: Valentine contest. I received the cutest award too! Thanks so much, Sapphire!

Muse Resurrection?

Alive and kicking again... :D

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Wow, sometimes when I dry up (artistically speaking) I really dry up and will hardly turn out anything creative for a spell. But when it hits, it hits! :O Lately I've been turning out some stuff left and right, mostly dolls and pixels, and participating in my fave doll forum after a period of non-activity there. That's me, lol, I work in spurts. My muse seems to get lazy and likes taking long vacations. Either that, or my brain fizzles, needs a looong recharge, then takes off again for a bit before fizzling again... :O_o: :dead:

Been working on three- yes three- contest entries lately, and entered into a group collaboration on a forum for an event. That oughtta be fun! :boogie:

And I've also been tagged! :w00t: So here goes quiz time:
